Virtual Online Community Library (VOCaL)

Access to public library services is now available in Moosonee through the Virtual Online Community Library (VOCaL).
VOCaL is a one-year pilot project of Ontario Library Service – North and provides access to public library services in remote communities. Through VOCaL, one may borrow books from Ontario public libraries, download audio books, search for information on our databases page, and get help to search for information through online chat offered by Ask Ontario (Ask a Librarian). As well, one can search for family history at the kiosk using Ancestry Library Edition. Access to all of these services is provided free to member communities.

Moosonee is one of the pilot communities. Access to VOCaL is available at the kiosk located at the Moosonee Native Friendship Centre, and access is available anywhere one has Internet access, 24 hours a day / 7 days a week!.

Here is a link to the VOCaL website: http://www.olsn.ca/VOCaL/ . Click "Join Our Online Community" to find out about the participating communities, and location and hours of the kiosk. To join VOCaL, one must complete the online registration form – click Register! A library card is mailed along with flyers that describe how to use our services. The library card number is needed to borrow books, download audio books, and search the databases for information.

As it is a pilot project, membership in communities will be needed to secure ongoing funding for the project.
