The Town of Moosonee is currently looking for a

 

PUBLIC WORKS MANAGER

 

The Town of Moosonee is located on the west banks of the Moose River, a short 12 miles from the salt waters of the James Bay.

 

Reporting to the Town Manager and Town Council, the successful candidate is responsible for the management & leadership of public works services in the Town of Moosonee.  Areas of responsibility include roads, water, sewer, garbage collection & disposal, winter maintenance, repair, construction & emergency response services.

 

The successful candidate will have been trained in Ontario Road Supervision Standards, and have a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience within a public works department (or other comparable experience).  Excellent leadership, organizational, administrative, observational, interpersonal, communication skills and customer service skills are required.  Also required is experience preparing & working within budgets, as well as knowledge of legislative requirements affecting public works.  A Water Distribution & Sewer Collection certificate is preferred, but not mandatory.

MUSEUM ATTENDANT - (1 position)

Parks and Recreation Department - (Seasonal, Full Time)

 

DUTIES:

Open the municipally operated museums in accordance with the ONR Train Schedule each week and provide information to museum visitors.  Provide customer service, information about the area, and refer questions to the appropriate personnel.  Maintain the museum in a clean and orderly fashion.  Report to the Recreation Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate(s) will have the following:

 

Ø      Must be between the age of 15 and 24 on the commencement of the work term

Ø      Full-time student returning to school in the fall

Ø      Eligible to work in Canada

Ø      Strong customer relation skills

Ø      Knowledge of the history of the people and land of James Bay

Ø      Ability to work under minimal supervision

Ø      The successful applicant will be required to submit a current Criminal Record Check

RECREATION MAINTENANCE – STUDENT (3 Positions pending funding)

Parks and Recreation Department - (Seasonal, Full Time)

 

DUTIES:

Reporting to the Recreation Director and/or Full-Time Recreation Maintenance Worker, you will be responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operation of the Town’s parks and recreation facilities.  This includes janitorial duties, function and special event preparation, upkeep and maintenance of the Town’s soccer field, baseball field, grass mowing at various other locations throughout the community and other tasks essential to the safe and smooth operation of the facilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate(s) will have the following:

Ø      Full-time student returning to school in the fall.

Ø      Experience operating equipment such as lawn mowers and grass trimmers.

Ø      Experience operating hand and power tools

Ø      Experience in cleaning and building maintenance

Ø      Grounds maintenance skills including operation and care of various equipment

Ø      Strong customer service, organizational and decision making skills

Ø      Ability to work independently or as a member of a team

Ø      Able to work under minimal supervision

Ø      First Aid/CPR

Ø      WHIMIS training

Ø      The successful applicant will be required to submit a current Criminal Record Check

RECREATION MAINTENANCE WORKER TRAINEE (2 positions)

Parks and Recreation Department

 

DUTIES

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation & Tourism or designate you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Town’s recreation facilities and parks.  This would include ice surface preparation and maintenance, facility maintenance and repairs, record keeping, janitorial duties, function and special event preparation and other tasks essential to the safe and smooth operation of our facilities and park areas. Work schedule will require the successful candidate to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays and call-ins as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Ø      Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent

Ø      Must currently be on E.I. (Employment Insurance) or have been in the last 3 years

Ø      Must be a member of the Mushkegowuk Communities

Ø      Basic Refrigeration Certificate would be an asset

Ø      Experience Operating a Ice-resurfacer would be an asset

Ø      Experience operating equipment such as trucks, mowers and small machinery

Ø      Experience operating hand and power tools

Ø      Experience in cleaning and building maintenance

Ø      Grounds maintenance skills including operation and care of various equipment

Ø      Strong customer service, organizational and decision making skills

Ø      Ability to work independently or as a member of a team

Ø      Able to work under minimal supervision

Ø      Current Standard Level First Aid & CPR Training or willingness to obtain certification

Ø      Propane handling certificate would be an asset

Ø      Must physically fit to complete a variety of work tasks from light duty to heavy lifting

Ø      The successful applicant will be required to submit a current Criminal Record Check

 

PAY: $11.50 / hour

 

Duration: 6 Month Term Position - June to November 2009

Parks and Recreation Department - (Seasonal, Full Time)

 

DUTIES

Reporting to the Recreation Director or designate, the Summer Fun Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the daily activities of the day camp program and ensuring the safety and well-being of all those involved.  The Coordinator will be expected to lead activities, prepare materials, supervise and interact with participants 6-12 years of age and communicate with parents.  The Coordinator will direct and supervise Day Camp Leaders in their duties to ensure that they are meeting their job responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate(s) will have the following:

Ø      Must be between the age of 15 and 24 on the commencement of the work term

Ø      Full-time student returning to school in the fall

Ø      Eligible to work in Canada

Ø      Education and/or experience working with children ages 6-12 years old

Ø      Experience in a supervisory role preferred

Ø      Ability to work with large groups of children who come from a variety of backgrounds

Ø      Ability to work comfortably, tactfully and courteously with children, parents and staff

Ø      Good organizational and working knowledge of children’s activities

Ø      Good written and verbal communication skills

Ø      High school diploma or equivalency preferred

Ø      Current First Aid/CPR ‘C’ Certification or willingness to acquire certification
